UK Day 6 - Walk, Drive, Learn

Went for a walk along the Torrent Walk in the morning.  Went shopping and then drove to the coast in the afternoon.  Listened to a dry run of a talk on organic chemistry in the evening.

Travel

A few pictures from the Torrent Walk, that I took with Emma in the morning.

St. Mark's church in Brithdir.  Interesting because the pulpit and the altar are made of brass.  This church is no longer active but is under the care of The Society of Friends of Churches with No Friends or something similar to that.  This was on the way to the Torrent Walk.

A view of one of many waterfalls along the Torrent Walk.  It is aptly named.  The description claims there are hidden industrial remains.  They must have been well hidden.  I didn't see them.

A house at the lower end of the Torrent Walk that seemed classically English, er Welsh I guess, countryside.

Random, but interesting flower.

Sheep of the day.

This is from a drive after our shopping trip.  We took the long way back.

What to do with your boat when the tide goes out in Barmouth.

Kind of a fun shot from a cemetery along the coast.

Harlech Castle.  It wasn't open when we were there, but fun to walk around and take pictures of.

We believe that this is Mt. Snowden in the distance.

Thinking

Got to listen to a dry run of an excellent presentation on organic chemistry put together by Ian with significant help from Emma.  It's useful stuff to know about if you eat or live and very well done.  I came away believing that a fairly complicated topic had been neatly tied together.

  1. really enjoying the blog, as you travel, Lonnie. Great pics.
you're now well to the north in Wales - too late to visit the tragic
site down near Cardif, of the 1966 Aberfan mining disaster - so
many children lost - like our own Newtown, that wounded the national spirit for more than a decade.

seems like, the world over, we feel deep kinship with those whose tragically loose loved ones, especially children. I suppose this is one of your 'emotional' beliefs - but not sure how
it in turn leads to other beliefs - other than shared grief is intrinsically part of being human.

news here is still covering the Queen - with very little commentary on the new PM (so far). More speculation on the status of Scotch Independence - if that gets rolling, I wonder if the Welsh would become similarly interested?

right now, most are probably wondering how cold it's going to get this winter (and how costly heating fuel will be).

would love to be having a beer with you now, in a Welsh pub!

    cheers, mate.
