(2022.10.03, Monday) Monday, Emma and I headed toward Glastonbury. Culturally, Glastonbury is somewhat west of a line that runs from Eugene, through Black Rock City, and then on to Sedona. It was fun. After that, we headed toward Wells, where we stumbled across one of the coolest finds of the trip. We tried to drive back through the Cheddar Gorge, but it was closed for some reason.
The Glastonbury Abbey. We didn't go in, but the ruins above the wall were pretty interesting to look at.
A guy we passed on the walk up Glastonbury Tor. It looked like a good life.
Glastonbury Tor in the distance along with the sheep of the day.
The tower on Glastonbury Tor.
The tawny owl of Glastonbury Tor. This is a therapy owl used for some form of psychological therapy. Apparently, it needs to get outside occasionally. I completely appreciate that.
Glastonbury Tor is the highest point for several miles around. This is a view of Glastonbury from the top (or near the top, at least).
Beats the heck out of an ordinary garage door.
If you were wondering what kind of place Glastonbury is, this should explain it.
A flower.
This may have been the coolest find of the trip. This is the Wells Reclamation Company. It's filled with all sorts of things that seem to have come from old estates and castles. It's probably good that it's so far away from where I live.
I'm sure everyone needs a seven-foot-tall "Thinker" in their backyard. They had several.
Random statuary.
This is the inside of the Wells Cathedral. Amazing! Particularly if you consider that this space was built around 800 years ago.
One of the cloisters around the churchyard.
This really is your typical English country road. Note that it's bi-directional.
Thinking
I had a great discussion about the notion of "integrity" with Ian and Emma around the dinner table. Further exploration of this will likely show up in future posts.
